Open Workouts - Summer 2024

On Tuesdays in July and August, players can attend our Open Workouts that will focus on hitting.  Players will go through a 5-minute warmup, followed by 15 minutes of drillwork, then transitioning into a Batting Practice rotation where players will hit live on the field, shag balls in the field and get additional swings off the tee.  Players should get anywhere between 75-100 swings during the hour session.  Use the button below to register for one or more sessions.

Open Workouts

(Available in Montgomery County, MD only) The Angels Open Workouts will be held throughout the year serving those that are looking for more reps than what is being offered by their teams/organizations.  If your child is playing in a “rec” league, it is very likely that they are not practicing enough; which means that they are unlikely to see improvement in their play.   In a February 2020 post on littleleague.org, the #3 problem facing youth baseball was “Too many games; not enough practice.”  And when these teams do practice, your child is likely not getting enough reps.  This model translates into slow growth (if at all).

With little to no practice time for your child, you cannot expect them to see improvement.  And with little to no improvement, your child is more likely to quit playing.  This is where the Angels’ Open Workouts can help you!

How an Angels Open Workout is Structured

The Open Workouts are essentially practices for those that attend.  The main purpose of the OWs are for players to receive reps that aren’t being received while they play for their current teams.  Or, they simply desire the additional work.  Your child will receive both quality instruction AND a much-needed high volume of reps!

Who can attend? We will offer separate sessions for players ages 8-12 and for players ages 13+.  We expect there to be kids with varying degrees of talent; but that doesn’t matter.  We will NOT adjust the practice based on talent.  Our practice plans will benefit kids of all talent levels.  NEVER think your child is not talented enough to attend; or is too talented to need extra work!

When will the sessions be held? Session dates/times will be announced periodically.  We will announce scheduling periodically; so check back here for the most current schedule.

Where will session be held?  We will hold sessions at local Montgomery County Middle School or Athletic Park fields (typically in the Germantown and Gaithersburg areas).

What is the cost?  The cost will vary from season to season and will depend on the length of the session, location, and content.

How will we register?  We will provide a registration link once we open the workouts.  There will be no payment required at registration.

How many sessions can my child attend?  As many as you’d like.  We may offer multiple sessions each week, understanding that one day may work better for your schedule.  However, if your child can attend multiple sessions during the week (and multiple sessions are offered), they are free to do so.

Will the same drills be conducted each session?  Likely, but we will introduce different drills as time goes on based on things we see.  BUT, we like to run the same drills as it helps with the flow of practice.  The more players get used to the drills/structure of the practice, the quicker players transition between drills and less explanation is needed; which translates into a greater number of reps.  The drills conducted during the infield session may differ week to week depending on the breakdown of the positions we have at the session.

What can I do now if I am interested, but cannot attend the next available session(s)?  Join our Mailing List (from our Home Page) to receive weekly updates and notifications on when OWs are scheduled.

Open Workouts is NOT A CAMP OR CLINIC.  The sessions are more comparable to a practice than a camp.  For more information, please reach out to Jason Aquilante at jaquilante@angels-baseball.org
