Removing the Divide
Over the past several years, the Angels Program has delivered an After-School baseball training program to kids at Montgomery County, MD Community Schools. These sessions consist of a one-hour training program that includes throwing, fielding and hitting drills, as well as games.
Kids that attend these sessions are usually new to the game. They are typically 2nd – 5th graders that have never played organized baseball or received training for the game. Why? It’s simple. The game has become too expensive. If playing Rec programs, you would have to be VERY lucky to receive the proper coaching needed to develop a solid foundation that keeps you in the game. Most parents are opting for travel programs, something that is not attainable financially for many kids. So, many (MANY) kids are left on the outside looking in.
The Angels After-School program is one that gives kids a chance to learn the game the right way. It gives them access to great coaching. Essentially, it gives them an opportunity to see if baseball (or softball) is a sport that can provide them an avenue to attaining success.
