The Angels Camps & Clinics are a great way for kids to get short, skill-focused instruction on various aspects of the game. Angels Baseball encourages kids to play multiple sports; but understand that instruction during baseball off-season periods are needed to help the player improve and put them in a better position to succeed during the season. The Angels Camps & Clinics will be offered each Winter and Summer and topics for the sessions may be the same from year to year or different. We will offer sessions based on what we believe to be the most necessary content to cover as we watch, and teach youth players throughout the year.
This summer we will be offering four programs: a Catching Program, a Pitching Program, a Throwing Program and a Middle Infielders Program. Scroll down to learn about each program.
PITCHING PROGRAM
Eligible Players: Players ages 11 and up
Dates: The following Mondays in July and August (7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 8/7, 8/14)
Time: 5:30-6:30pm
Location: Ridgeview Middle School Field #4 (Next to the Tennis Courts)
Overview: The Pitching Program will have two main focus points. First, we will look to improve one’s control; and second, we will look to increase a pitcher’s velocity. In order to achieve both, we need to make sure mechanics are sound, and to help us with this effort we will be using OnForm, a video markup tool currently being used by College and Major League Baseball teams across the country. WIth OnForm, parents will receive an account soon after registration. During Session 1, we will video all pitchers. The video will be uploaded to OnForm. A Coach will review the video, adding markups and a voice-over, pinpointing areas of weakness. The video will then be returned to the player and parent, giving them instant feedback. We will then video each pitcher again during the final session. A side by side analysis will be provided, with the hopes of showcasing the improvements that were made between weeks 1 and 5.

CATCHING PROGRAM
Eligible Players: Players Ages 11 & Up
Dates: The following Mondays in July and August (7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 8/7, 8/14)
Time: 6:30-7:30pm
Location: Ridgeview Middle School Field #4 (Next to the Tennis Courts)
Overview: The Catching Program will primarily target improving a catcher’s pop time to 2nd base. During the first session, we will be recording a catcher’s exchange time (time it takes from when they catch the ball to when they throw the ball) and their pop time (time it takes from when they catch the ball to when the ball reaches 2nd base). We will again record these times at the final session, with the goal of seeing improvement from July 10th to August 14th. The majority of the session times will be spent on improving the skills that are involved in these metrics, which include: Receiving, Exchange, Footwork, and Arm Strength. However, we will mix in blocking drills, fielding their position and plays at the plate.

THROWING PROGRAM
Eligible Players: Players ages 11 & Up
Dates: The following Wednesdays in July and August (7/12, 7/19, 8/2, 8/9, 8/16)
Time: 6:30-7:30pm
Location: Ridgeview Middle School Field #4 (Next to the Tennis Courts)
Overview: The Throwing Program’s primary focus will be on improving a player’s arm strength. All players will have their Throwing Velocity measured during the first session, and then again during the final session. The goal is to see an improved velocity. We will look to improve one’s velocity through the following: looking for areas where we can improve mechanics; improving the involvement of the lower half in their throwing mechanics; learning how to properly long toss; and incorporating various strength drills that impact a player’s “throwing muscles”.

MIDDLE INFIELD PROGRAM
Eligible Players: Players ages 11 & Up
Dates: Players can register for one or both sessions below. HOWEVER, CONTENT FOR EACH SESSION WILL BE THE SAME.
Time: 9:30-11:00 am on each day
Location: Ridgeview Middle School Field #4 (Next to the Tennis Courts)
Overview: The Middle Infield Program will focus on two key areas for the second base and shortstop positions: Double Plays and Fielding/Throwing on the run. Turning a double play is a game-changing play and, when executed, can turn the momentum of an inning quickly. Players will be drilled in the DP feeds and turns from both positions. Those that register will work from both second base and shortstop. Players will also receive a significant number of reps in playing through balls. Both of these positions must posses the skill of fielding the ball on the run and throwing on the run. This includes charge plays, backhands and forehands. Middle Infielders MUST BE ATHLETIC! And we will spend these hours working on improving their athleticism.
